Just a cheap and quick CPU upgrade. I could have purchased a slightly slower CPU with a couple more cores for twice the money, but $40 for 8 cores will probably be sufficient. I was tempted to throw in another 32gb of RAM, but that seemed like a little much. Next week may be a different story...

That RAM better be ECC

But of course...

That is awesome and makes me jealous...until I remember that I do absolutely nothing on a computer that needs that many threads. I could go through a whole year at work and never see more than 15% CPU utilization.

I probably don’t need this much power either, but for the money this thing can’t be beat. $150 got me the workstation with 32gb and a 4-core processor. I had to add my own drives, but I’ve got plenty. They’re currently selling the same computer for $25 less. I have a FirePro W7000 that I grabbed for $50 that I need to toss in there. So, for a little over $200 I have one monster workstation that can probably handle anything I could throw at it. Oh, and I also added an Adaptec RAID controller (and got another 4-port SATA controller) for an additional $5. This stuff is coming from a recycling outfit that also sells some of the good items they receive , essentially for the value of the gold in them.

Nice, Are you just running a desktop with it or are you doing something with hyper-v?

It’s just a secondary desktop for now, but it will probably be used as for video editing. I didn’t have any projects in mind when I bought it, but I knew it was a good deal that I had to jump on.
